Blind Boxes: Fun or Gambling? by Steven Hanz Susanto

The blind box phenomenon, also known as the “Blind Box Craze”, is a social phenomenon revolving around people eagerly buying blind boxes. A blind box is a type of packaging that keeps its content hidden, adding the element of unpredictability to purchasing figurines. In 2024, the market size of blind boxes will reach $13.5 billion globally. The video “Blind Boxes: Fun or Gambling?” takes the format of a mashup video. It uses a combination of clips from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and self-captured footage to explore the “Blind Box Craze”. The video aims to target a diverse audience, which primarily focuses on parents and general consumers of blind boxes. Within the general consumers, the emphasis is on individuals in their teenage years and above. The content is not aimed for children due to the inclusion of theories and discussions which could be too complex for younger viewers to fully comprehend. For parents, the video serves as a crucial resource to raise awareness about the potential gambling implications associated with blind boxes.
